BTW, it doesn't matter whether or not you are explicitly trying to justify your jokes or not. Actions speak louder than words - you give your nod of approval to these jokes whenever you decide to make them, even if you acknowledge that they are in bad taste.

And the 'internet excuse' is among the worst in the book. Your rationale for being a complete douchebag to him on a personal level is that you'll never meet him in real life (a questionable conclusion given the extent of stalking you guys went through in order to find out about his condition). How the fuck is that relevant? If anything this proves that you already know that you are in the wrong; basically you implied that you would never have the balls to make fun of someone suffering with AIDS in person. The fact that you met him on the internet doesn't change the fact that he is a real person with a real disease.

Anyways, this is a waste of time because its pretty clear you know that you are in the wrong. Otherwise you would have responded to Eddie's post where he ripped you a new one, instead of only Sarah and Nat.

I had typed a long ass response to this earlier but before posting it the board made me login again and I lost it.

Essentially I said that you don't know my or Sheila's personal life and to make the assumption that our lives have not been affected by someone with an eating disorder is insensitive.

I could have raised a big stink since my aunt had bulimia and anorexia and only recently began to help a year ago but I didn't. It could have discussed how it personally offended me that someone dare speak of that disease in that fashion, but I didn't.

Moreover, the AIDS jokes only started again when Will got on the site and was attacking Sheson. We said nothing to provoke him until he made rude comments towards us.

lol okay. Since the fact that Will has come to a mature conclusion for his diagnosis and done well with his life with the help, our internet joke must have set him back a lot. You don't know if someone on this forum personally has an eating disorder and that joke actually set them back.

You would all have a case here if Will did not do the exact same thing that Sheila did with his personal attacks and accusations of eating disorders. The AIDS jokes are bad, obviously worse than ones about eating disorders, but the idea that he is allowed to make the jokes in retaliation does not make him right in the situation. Two wrongs...

The AIDS jokes are really not even made against Will anymore and I hope all of you realize that.

I think this is going to be my last post on this topic because I'm starting to think we just don't have a common language or defense mechanisms are out in full force.

It's not about what you did or what Will did. (And by "what" I mean the general act of attacking someone) It's about how you did it/ continue to do it.

I talk a lot of smack when I'm a player in a game, this isn't about the act of saying offensive shit at all. You have at least ten posts on this board that if you just stopped yourself from submitting and just let it go no one would be flipping out.

But for you it's not about making this go away. It's about saving some imaginary pride by trying to make Will equal parts guilty with you and Sheila. Which is done by continuing to try to convince the board that the AIDS comment isn't as bad as we're making it out to be and we're just overreacting holier than thou hypocrites, and it is also done by trying to convince us that we are missing a horrible infringement on Will's part.

We've all seen this whole thing play out, no one is going to be convinced of anything. Downplaying your actions just makes you seem like a bigger dick and fussing about one of Will's posts makes you seem like a child. Stop digging holes for yourself.


You can do that by not responding to anymore posts on this topic, but if you feel like you absolutely have to respond go ahead, for my part I won't continue it.

I disagree with mystery poster entirely on the maturity of responses. Most often throwing a fit online is immature but there are certain instances (and for me this is one of them) that just being quiet is an act of condoning. Some people never take a stand because they are afraid of making things uncomfortable with their peers. That's not a sign of maturity, just the opposite.
